Everyone says pricing is key when doing business. I disagree.The meeting with Prashanth Belagatti lasted for just half an hour and culminated in cementing an immensely worthwhile partnership — one that is fun, transparent and respectful. By the end of our discussions, the abstractions had coalesced into a neat little project. It felt auspicious.The project in question was a music video for the song — Solisa Beda Gelisayya written by K.Kareem Khan, composed by BV Karanth and sung by Ananya Bhat. We promptly went over to meet the team from Divo who were very keen to get the video out in a month. Amidst them was Ananya bhat, who I recognised as the singer of Sojugada Sooju Mallige (Like a solitary jasmine flower), bubbling with excitement. We got around to listening to the song Solisa Beda Gelisayya. We were stumped by this folksy, rock-inspired song, beseeching Govinda to lift us, make us win, not lose. The message, simple yet compelling, captured the essence of faith and courage in the face of adversity. Every aspect of the song — the voice, composition, and message came together beautifully. We enthusiastically struck a deal to produce a cost-effective, concept-affective music video that met the standards of the singer’s acclaim. We took on this project in full faith despite budget constraints. I’m glad we did.It was a delight to work with everyone on the team. Needless to say, Ananya was brilliant. This project was a success and a fulfilling one to work on. My takeaway from this experience is that pricing is not always the key to doing business. Then what is? Meaningful collaborations. When people collaborate on a foundation of trust, open conversations, camaraderie, and wanting the best for everyone, things fall into place with ease and magic happens.
