Southwest Airlines is offering 50% off flights. Here’s what you need to know
June 18 is a special day for Southwest Airlines, and, to commemorate its birthday, the airline is holding a savings event for customers.Officials say customers have the opportunity to save up to 50% on base fares using the code BDAY on select flights through June 13 during the Wanna Get Away Week sale. If you’d like to fly to Puerto Rico, Hawaii or international, qualifying travel must be between Aug. 20 and Dec. 17. Blackout dates for travel within the U.S. include the following dates: Aug. 30, Sept. 2, Nov. 22 through Nov. 27, and Nov. 29 through Dec. 2. Blackout dates for international travel, Hawaii and Puerto Rico include the following dates: Aug. 29 to Sept. 3, between Nov. 21 and Nov. 25, and between Nov. 29 and Dec. 3. The discount applies to the base fare, so you will still need to pay necessary taxes and fees. For example, if you wanted to travel from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Tampa, Florida, from Sept. 10 to Sept. 14, your flight qualifies for the BDAY promotion and your base fare will be $69.19. Once you add taxes and fees, your roundtrip total will be $123.58. Customers have until 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time (1:59 a.m. Central Time and 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time) on June 13 to take advantage of the Wanna Get Away Week sale.
